Emergencies

Dental emergencies: what to do first

First, what can't wait: swelling that spreads or trouble breathing is a medical emergency. After that, what we can see you for at the office.

We try to see people with an urgent problem the same day when we can, and we can't promise it. Call and Celeste will tell you the next available time. If you call after hours, leave a message and we will call back the next day we are open.

  • Call first: (956) 555-0101

  • Celeste answers during office hours

  • After hours, leave a message

  • Swelling that spreads to your face, eye or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a serious blow to the head, or bleeding that won't stop needs emergency care now. Go to an emergency room or call 911. If a tooth is knocked out or broken, call our office right away.

What counts as an emergency, and what to do first

These steps are not a substitute for calling: call while you do them.

  • A tooth was knocked out

Hold it by the crown, not the root. Rinse it with water if dirty, without scrubbing, and call us right away. If you can, bring it in milk.

  • A broken or chipped tooth

Rinse with warm water, keep the piece if you find it and call us. A cold cloth on the outside of your face helps with swelling.

  • A toothache that won't ease

Rinse with warm water and floss in case food is stuck. Call us and tell us how long it has lasted, without health details by message.

  • A filling or crown came out

Keep it and call us. Avoid chewing on that side until we see you.

Questions about emergencies

Will you see me the same day?

We try when we can, and we can't promise it. Call and we will tell you the next available time.

What does an emergency visit cost?

It depends on what is needed. Celeste explains how payment works, and you get the estimate in writing before treatment.

What do I do at night or on a weekend?

We don't answer the phone outside office hours. Leave a message and we will call back the next day we are open. If it is a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
